Open to one and all

Minister of Culture
In a complex global environment, it is important not to shy away from the rare opportunities to celebrate good news – for instance at the Philharmonie, which, after two remarkable decades, appears to be heading for new heights. It continues to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to making culture more accessible, a mission that I intend to carry on supporting so as to ensure that the trend continues. The steadily increasing attendance figures speak for themselves: in 2025, 224.826 people visited the Philharmonie, 10% more than the previous year, not counting the 35.000 or so children, including more than 19.000 students – a record – who benefited from the youth programme. Indeed, education and training are at the heart of the institution's activities. Whether it involves supporting people with limited access to culture through the commendable work of the Fondation EME, or training young professional musicians at the dawn of their brilliant careers through the Luxembourg Philharmonic Academy, the aim is to secure the future.
Working with young people means keeping in step with the times, and the Philharmonie strives to do just that. In both its programming and its outreach activities, it readily makes use of the latest information technologies and artificial intelligence, within a legal framework that respects the rights of all.
This inspiring youthfulness is also reflected in the appointment of the new Music Director of the Luxembourg Philharmonic, the young Martin Rajna, who, though only 31 years old, already has an impressive track record – as evidenced by his position as Principal Conductor of the Hungarian State Opera. He will take up his post with us this season, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming him.
I am also looking forward to following the development of the new Heemspill programme dedicated to the local scene, in which artists from both Luxembourg and the Greater Region should be able to fulfil their potential in what might be called a «home game».
So, there is plenty of good news to be savoured throughout 2026/27, which promises to be just as exciting as previous seasons.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear music lovers,
Do you like the mountains too? And the way you feel when you're hiking in the mountains? You're well equipped, set off, climb high, even if you suddenly find that the path around the bend takes you back down a bit. There will be surprises – nice ones, and maybe not such ones – along the way, but we enjoy the walk whilst looking forward to reaching our goal. A host of impressions, experiences and insights into ourselves accompany us along the route, which ideally leads to a unique panorama that holds our senses in thrall, brings us entirely into the moment, and becomes etched in our memories.
It is the blend of experience, caution and passion which make such an undertaking a success. Designing the programme for a concert venue is quite similar to the organised adventure of a mountain hike. Ideally, the outcome will be a varied aesthetic experience and the thrill of a successful venture.
In addition to our usual «mountain hikes» through a range of musical terrains, we invite you to join us on a tour of the peaks and cultures of the Atlas Mountains and to discover the fascination of the diverse music from this part of the world.
Use this Musical Diary to choose your own route! You can head straight for the Atlas Mountains, conquer further peaks with Ludwig van Beethoven, who died 200 years ago, or explore the monolith that is Johann Sebastian Bach, perhaps in the company of our Artist in focus, the charismatic young pianist Beatrice Rana.
In between, of course, you can pop into our Foyer, which will be transformed into a musical cathedral by our new series Au c(h)œur des colonnes.
In all of these adventures, we are particularly looking forward to being guided by Martin Rajna, the new Music Director of the Luxembourg Philharmonic, who despite his youth has already conquered many peaks!
Welcome
