There is cause for celebration this autumn: join us in blowing out ten candles for the festival atlântico! The unwavering success enjoyed from the very outset by this event dedicated to the music of the Portuguese-speaking countries boils down to an audience that, transcending communities and languages, invariably gives a warm welcome to the artists, whether they are big names or emerging talents. But while we should of course rejoice in such enthusiasm, it is important not to forget that the event also responds to the pressing need to expand the Philharmonie's programming to include popular musical styles, in the very best sense of the term.

We begin by crossing the Atlantic for some concerts dedicated to música popular brasileira, represented this season by two of its leading exponents who will be performing at our venue for the first time: Mônica Salmaso, who will explore the musical soul of her country during an intimate evening, and the iconic Djavan, who will be celebrating his 50-year career. We then move back to Portugal, with Carminho's particular brand of fado, blending love and resistance, followed by the free and adventurous jazz of trumpeter Luís Vicente, together with his trio and two distinguished guests, saxophonist Tony Malaby and pianist Leo Genovese. The festival will close with three celebratory events: the voice and body percussion of Mozambican musician Lenna Bahule, in an artistic gesture linking her country of origin and Brazil; an explosive line-up blending jazz, hip-hop and MPB with Criolo, Amaro Freitas and Dino D'Santiago; and finally, a samba circle led by the musicians of Coletivo Gira, who will also be leading the workshop for young audiences at a festival that is more open than ever to the vibrant Lusophone world.
