Lëtz’ Make Music
«Moien, Luxembourg!», foreign artists visiting the Philharmonie usually call out from the stage when they want to address their audience in its home language. During the 2024/25 season, this salutation will regularly be uttered by native speakers too, as Luxembourg’s own music scene increasingly takes the spotlight. One special highlight is a programme that combines the Euphonium Concerto by the composer Marco Pütz with a new work dedicated to Pascal Schumacher, tailored to his artful way with the vibraphone. The young cellist Benjamin Kruithof, also a son of the Grand Duchy, has been nominated as a «Rising star» and will be performing Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme with the Luxembourg Philharmonic at CAPE in Ettelbruck. The orchestra will also premiere Out of the blue by Claude Lenners, commissioned by the Luxembourg Public Authorities, and will take the piece on tour to Cologne.
The pianist Cathy Krier will continue her series «Yoga at the Phil», while her compatriot, the composer Catherine Kontz will be curating the rainy days festival for the second time, an event which has long become an essential part of the contemporary music scene in Luxembourg.
Catherine Kontz’ music will also be the focus of one of the productions for children in the series «Musikalesch Aventuren», demonstrating once again that the Philharmonie always has its young audiences in mind as well – not only with the adventures of the above-mentioned series, but with the series «Loopino», also presented «op Lëtzeburgesch».
Further concerts worth mentioning include the Luxembourg Philharmonic’s appearance under the baton of Gast Waltzing, the ciné-concert «Asphalt» with music by Francesco Tristano, concerts by United Instruments of Lucilin and a composition commissioned by the Luxembourg Philharmonic Academy from the Luxembourg-born composer Hy-Khang Dang.
Finally, the series «Fräiraim» will give the regional music scene «carte blanche» to present repertoire ranging all the way from metal to traditional Luxembourgish songs and contemporary music. More than ever, the motto is: «Moien a Merci, Lëtzebuerg!»
