...20 Joer Philharmonie Luxembourg
23.06.2025 - 01.11.2025
To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, the Philharmonie Luxembourg has curated an exhibition retracing two decades filled with emotion and music, through images and archives. Here, you can explore the virtual side of the exhibition.
Twenty years old. In any life, this is a pivotal moment which invites us to both look back and to wonder about the future. It is the age of dreams, of discovery, of bold leaps into the unknown. Designed as a casual walk through the Philharmonie, this exhibition revisits two decades full of memories, music, encounters and creativity.
It all starts with the building’s construction, which you can watch on the floor below the Ticket Office. There, you can also go back in time and explore twenty years of posters and graphic design. By the Philharmonie’s main entrance, a poetic installation pays tribute to the evening programmes which faithfully accompany our audience on most concerts. Tucked away in one of the painted corners of the Foyer, the guest books signed by the artists who have performed at the Philharmonie over the years are exceptionally out of the backstage and on display. You too will be able to leave a trace of your visit there.
At the heart of the exhibition, a retrospective in pictures highlights the intensity and emotions experienced on stage, as captured by four of our in-house photographers: Eric Engel, Sébastien Grébille, Inês Rebelo de Andrade and Alfonso Salgueiro. From Riccardo Muti to Gilberto Gil, from Yuja Wang to Peter Pan, these images bear witness to the artistic richness and the musical diversity that have enlivened our concert hall since its inauguration.
The Philharmonie Luxembourg is twenty years old. It is coming out of its teens to enter adulthood with style. It is young, ambitious, full of energy and focused on the future. We are delighted to celebrate this milestone in our history with you, our loyal audience, and invite you to dream forward with us.
Here’s to twenty more years!
The exhibition was curated by Inês Rebelo de Andrade in collaboration with the Philharmonie team.
All the photographs in the exhibition come from the Philharmonie Luxembourg archives and were taken by our in-house photographers: Eric Engel, Sébastien Grébille, Inês Rebelo de Andrade and Alfonso Salgueiro.
